VICE-ADMIRAL BRENT.

The death has taken place, after seven years’ illness, at his residence, 20, Carlyle-mansions, Cheyne-walk, of Vice-Admiral Harry Woodfall Brent, aged 76.
Admiral Brent became a mate in 1854 and as such served in the Styx during the Kaffir War, receiving the Kaffir Medal. While mate of the Algiers he served In the Baltic Expedition, 1854, being awarded the medal. He also took part in the Azoff Expedition; and at the bombardment of Kinburn in 1855 commanded the Magnet, mortarboat, and was the recipient of the Crimean and Turkish medals, Azoff and Sebastopol clasps, and the Fifth Class of the Medjidie. Later in the Retribution he took part in the China War.
Subsequently he was appointed Director of Marine under the Government of India, and from 1881 to 1883 was a member of the Bombay Port Trust. He was in receipt of a captain's good service pension from 1886 to 1889, and in 1891 became Director of Transports, a position which he held until 1896. He retired from active service, with the rank of captain, in 1889, became a rear-admiral in 1890, and a vice-admiral in 1896, from which year he held a naval pension of £150 a year.
